Finding North Soil and Soul
A program rooted at Mitzvah Garden Kansas City*
A summer weekend of gardening and reflection, setting intentions for the High Holy Days
Days integrate text study, gardening, and guided personal narrative/storylistening. Painting, pottery, and garden-side yoga, with evenings of campfires, garden-grown cocktails, and stargazing augment our cultivation of spirit. Spend time both in the garden and at selected Kansas City sites.
Dig into Jewish wisdom and storytelling to cultivate meaning for the next season of our lives.
*Mitzvah Garden Kansas City, located on the grounds of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, is a volunteer-supported non-profit teaching the agricultural roots of Judaism and supplying local food pantries
Sample Schedule:
(all programs subject to change)
Thursday, August 31
Launch our journey, set intentions, and get to know one another as we ground our learning in personal stories and Jewish wisdom.
Friday, September 1
Gardening, text exploration and honing our storylistening skills sets us in motion. Afternoon hands-on workshops using the garden’s produce set the mood for Shabbat. In the home of Mitzvah Garden KC’s visionary founder, we welcome Shabbat.
Saturday, September 2
A Jewish yoga-like prayer experience followed by kiddush lunch. Dedicate the afternoon to sharing deeply meaningful stories from within one’s life experience and mine them for meaning. There’s always time for pickleball before seudah shlishit. Havdalah with smores, popcorn, a campfire, and plenty of singing are the perfect farewell to Shabbat.
Sunday, September 3
Morning gardening, orchard text study and creating personal High Holy Day mandalas …. After lunch we engage in some creative clay work, with dinner in town together.
Monday, September 4
Our final morning in the garden culminating in a spirited farewell lunch celebration.
